The BIG Fish Story. I will keep the names of the accused a secret but the photos might just give away the tale. Two Hog Valley fisher men whom claim to win most if not all Bass tournaments in the area claim the have the TOP bass spots for fishing in the Ocklawaha River. I say claim cause I have not seen a fish or have seen any prize monies or trophies. So to squash the big FISH tale, I pack up my camera grab my pole and off I go with the champion fisherman. Accompanied on this fishing adventure a West Virginia Native down visiting the Hog Valley area. The day is Thursday Aprial 2009, The Two champs claim the almighty almanac says today is the best time to catch is 10am till noon. The boats in the water and the sun is on the rise, the winds were blowing in from the east at approximately 3mph. We reach our destination the exclusive site of the big bass that was told by some one who told some one that this was the spot. The shiners cam out, the poles were rigged and off into the water they swim. Moments later clouds start rolling the fog starts to thicken the area, this was the perfect excuse for the champs to say, lets move to a new site this just don’t seem to be the right time here in this spot. We reel in, and the boat starts back toward the south. The champs spot a perfect spot near two trees that had Black bird red wings flying about. One champ says “The bass are here!” “I can tell by the black bird red wings, when they are around it means the bass are underneath the water.” Is this a fish story I wonder or was it fact? I would soon find out. I throw my little shiner up near the tree where the black bird sat chirping. And it wasn’t more than 5 minuets my cork sinks and off and running. As my pole bends and I’m reeling. One of the Champs say “I’ll get the net” I reel in a 5 lb Bass and the champs boast with confidence this is the spot” as I let my bass back into the water, the West Virginia native starts reeling one in, landing another 5lb bass. Wow, the West Virginia native and I seem to be doing great, The champs seemed to be getting anxious, in fact it seemed the champs continued to reposition themselves in the boat where the West Virginia native and I were located in the boat. Well, as with all fish stories it’s the one that got away, one of the champs hooks on to something but we never saw it, could it have been a bass? Or may be just some grass? The other champ reels in a small pike, but I thought we were with Champion Bass fisherman but yet no bass? HUM the plot thickens, The West Virginia native says hey look there what’s going on by my cork? It was a big commotion going on there something big was disturbing the top of the water and making the shiner very nervous. Seconds later the cork was gone from site one two three and hook, the West Virginia native starts reeling, oh its real big but what was it? The nets out and he landed the Biggest bass I have ever seen up close. It spanned over 26 inches long, the fish was held at his shoulder and hung down just past his waist. A monster of a bass. Don’t worry bass fisherman he is still out there, A true wall hanger, but the West Virginia native let him go! Oh my it hurt to see him swim off he should be hanging on a wall. The champs who still have not reeled in a BASS took full credit for the catch. The boasted on how they located the spot that caught the BIG BASS. Do you have a BIG FISH story?
